Beam Suntory's Jose Luis Fuentes Ezquerra, Change Management Manager with the International Revenue Management team in Madrid, knows how to find the human element in the hard data and number crunching central to his finance role.
I help implement new revenue management initiatives within the international region,” Jose said. “I am focused on working with the markets on a daily basis to help them understand revenue functions, why we need them, and in what ways we need to adapt and why.
Born and raised in Madrid, Jose, like his father, studied business administration to learn multiple disciplines for a breadth of opportunities once he started his career.
After graduating from CUNEF (a university in Spain specialized in business administration, economics, law and finance), Jose worked as a consultant for three years. He joined Beam Suntory in a consultant role to help integrate the travel retail market into the company. After the Global Travel Retail (GTR) business unit was established, he was brought on full time as a junior finance analyst working with travel retail in Europe.
“I was doing a lot of back office work, and I was able to learn about payment and controlling processes while also learning about profitability and reporting of weekly and monthly sales,” Jose said.
Later, he transitioned to the central global retail team, which gave him the opportunity to work cross-regionally with colleagues around the world, including in India, Australia and the US.
The Revenue Management team wants to fuel business growth through revenue realization, pricing power, profitable growth and trade spend optimization. These goals often require systematic and process changes to be made, and Jose ultimately ensures the organization is prepared to adopt them. He partners with key stakeholders to help them understand how Revenue Growth change initiatives impact employees by providing trainings, reporting and/or communications of timely information to employees to answer their WIIFM (what’s in it for me?).
“I understand change can be tough sometimes,” Jose said. It’s important for me to make sure I am listening to people and feedback they provide so future trainings and communications are even better.”
An avid traveler, Jose has visited every country in Europe.
“I had a lot of curiosity to learn about other countries and cultures, and I wanted to see as much as possible,” Jose said. “Among all the places I’ve had the privilege to visit, I would say Florence, Italy is my favorite because it's a very comfortable and walkable city with great architecture, food, and weather.”
Jose likes to stay active by playing sports. He plays futbol and supports Real Madrid FC. He also likes to swim, run and play padel, which he describes as a hybrid of tennis and squash.
