Beam Suntory Joins the United Nations Climate Change ‘Race to Zero’ Campaign

This action supports the company’s commitment to addressing climate change as part of its ambitious ‘Proof Positive’ sustainability strategy

CHICAGO, IL – NOVEMBER 1, 2021 – Beam Suntory, a world leader in premium spirits, has joined the ‘Race to Zero’ campaign of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to promote a healthier, safer, cleaner world.

Beam Suntory’s commitment, made through its membership in the Scotch Whisky Association, is in line with the company’s ambitious, long-term climate goals laid out in its Proof Positive sustainability strategy, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and going beyond net-zero carbon emissions across the entire value chain by 2040.

Race to Zero is a global campaign to rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, and investors for a healthy, resilient, zero-carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth.

“We are proud to join the Race to Zero, and stand alongside environmentally-minded companies, governments and people all over the world who are racing to zero carbon and a better world,” said Albert Baladi, President and CEO of Beam Suntory. “Now is the time for meaningful action for Beam Suntory. We are excited by the opportunity to support this vision and do our share for a more resilient, equitable future.”

As part of the Race to Zero campaign, Beam Suntory joins more than 3,000 non-state actors, representing more than 15% of the global economy, in responding to the climate crisis. Together, this group is the largest coalition ever established committed to credible net-zero targets. Beam Suntory is looking forward to engaging with this coalition and world leaders at this year’s UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, and commends the Scottish and UK Governments in taking this leadership role by hosting this important gathering.

The response to climate change is a race against time that requires unprecedented collaboration across all corners of the globe, with everyone invested in driving positive change. It is a core belief of Beam Suntory and its people that it must be part of the solution – joining the Race to Zero is one way the company will take action to create a healthier, safer, cleaner world.
