Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

What is your leadership philosophy?

Matt: I believe that any team of people is capable of achieving anything if they want it enough. Our job as leaders is to set direction and inspire and enable our people to get there, the right way. And, to do so remembering that none of us is as good as all of us.

What was your first job?

Matt: My first full-time job was as an officer in the British Army. It taught me the power of leadership and teamwork.

What do you like to do with your free time outside of work? Hobbies etc.

Matt: I love spending time with my family – whether watching my kids play sports, hiking together down a desert trail or sitting around the kitchen table sharing stories of our week.

What’s your Beam drink of choice?

Matt: Beam Black with Ginger.

If you could have drinks with any person (living or dead) who would you choose?

Matt: Winston Churchill. He was an incredible leader who refused to give up on what was right and inspired steadfast resolve in the British people during such a difficult period in history. I’d love to soak up his wisdom over a glass of Courvoisier.

How do you Unleash your Spirit?

Matt:People are our winning competitive edge, and I draw my inspiration from them. Whether breathing in the sweet air of our distilleries or interacting with a customer in one of the world’s great cities, these moments are made special by the remarkable colleagues who work tirelessly every day to craft the spirits brands that stir the world. So I unleash my spirit through our teams, who are committed to Dreaming Big, Growing for Good, and winning in the marketplace as an unstoppable force in our industry. I consider it an honor and a privilege to lead this company and its people.
