(NYSE:FO)], the leading American spirits company, is thrilled to announce its 30 medal wins – including eight Double Gold medals and 11 Gold medals – at the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, one of the highest regarded spirits competitions in the world.

Alberta® Pure Vodka (available in Canada) dominated in the vodka category, winning “Best Vodka,” as well as a Double Gold medal. Meanwhile, El Tesoro de Don Felipe® Añejo Tequila received top honors as “Best Añejo Tequila” along with a Double Gold medal. In addition, Knob Creek® Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon, Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon, L’Essence de Courvoisier® Cognac, Laphroaig® 10 Year Old, Laphroaig® 10 Year Old Cask Strength and Laphroaig® 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky each took home Double Gold medal honors.

The following Beam Global Spirits & Wine brands received Double Gold or Gold medals in the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition:

  • Knob Creek® Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon received a Double Gold medal, while Knob Creek® was awarded with a Gold medal.
  • In the bourbon category, Basil Hayden® also received a Double Gold honor.
  • L’Essence de Courvoisier® Cognac received a Double Gold medal, and Courvoisier® 21, Courvoisier® XO and Courvoisier® VS each received a Gold medal.
  • A Double Gold medal and Best Añejo Tequila were awarded to El Tesoro de Don Felipe® Añejo Tequila. El Tesoro de Don Felipe® Reposado also won a Gold medal.
  • Also in the tequila category, Tres Generaciones® Plata Tequila and Sauza® Silver Tequila each earned a Gold medal.
  • Cruzan® Rum, the Legendary Rum of St. Croix, earned two honors: a Gold Medal for Cruzan® Aged Dark Rum and a Gold Medal for Cruzan® Single Barrel Rum.
  • EFFEN® Vodka received a Gold Medal.
  • Laphroaig Scotch whisky came out strong with Double Gold medals for Laphroaig® 10 Year Old, Laphroaig® 10 Year Old Cask Strength and Laphroaig® 18 Year Old. In addition, Laphroaig® Quarter Cask won a Gold medal to round out the category.
  • Alberta® Pure Vodka took home honors in the “Best Vodka” category and received a Double Gold Medal.

Since 2008, the company’s portfolio has garnered nearly 50 Double Gold and Gold medals, with brands such as Courvoisier, Laphroaig and El Tesoro de Don Felipe being recognized with 28 awards collectively.

The 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition was held on March 18-20 at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco. The 11th year of the competition, the event featured a record number of entries—1106 products from 61 countries. Judging during the event is based on blind taste tests and medals are awarded based on taste alone.
